Student and early career (less than 5 years from PhD) travel support may be available for VEXAG Meeting #14, November 29 – December 1, 2016, NASA Headquarters, Washington DC. Selected students and early career recipients of travel grants will give 5-10 minute presentations.
Provide a Notice of Intent by Friday, July 29, 2016 to twthompson@jpl.nasa.gov containing:
1. A one-page description of how your participation in this meeting will benefit you professionally and contribute to NASA’s explorations of Venus
2. An abstract for a 5-10 minute presentation

USRA Postdoctoral Scientist Position at Arecibo ObservatoryApplication Deadline: July 29, 2016
The Universities Space Research Association (USRA) is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Scientist position in the Planetary Radar group at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. This position would involve observations, data processing, archiving, and modeling of near-Earth asteroids and other Solar System bodies with the Arecibo Planetary Radar system. Experience in astronomical observations of Solar System objects, small-bodies geophysics, astronomical instrumentation, and/or numerical inverse modeling is desirable. Experience with radar observations and techniques, programming languages, and Linux systems is preferred but not required. The incumbent would be expected to participate in radar observations and also carry out an independent research program. The Observatory has significant computing facilities. Conference travel and equipment support are available. This position shall be for a two year appointment with the likely renewal of one year. The successful applicant will be a resident in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and will be an employee of USRA.

Two Post-Doctoral Opportunities at the International Space Science Institute in SwitzerlandApplication Deadline: July 31, 2016
The International Space Science Institute (ISSI) has two open positions, one in Space Sciences and the other in Earth Sciences. The successful candidates should have received a Ph.D. within the last five years in a field relating to either Space or Earth Sciences.
Applications for the post-doctoral position in Space Sciences should relate to space physics, solar system sciences, or to astronomy. Applications for the post-doctoral position in Earth Sciences should relate to remote sensing of the Earth system including climate.
The successful candidate is expected to pursue his/her independent research program, and will participate in the Institute’s research and meetings program, and will work in close contact with the scientific staff of the Institute. He or she may also lead or participate as a member in projects conducted by international teams at ISSI. Thus he or she will be exposed to, and interact with, a numerous and varied community of scientists from throughout the world.
Nationals from ESA Member States shall have priority. Salary and conditions of employment will be similar to those provided by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Further information may be obtained at http://www.issibern.ch.

Simons Collaboration on the Origins of Life 2017 Postdoctoral FellowshipsApplication Deadline: September 9, 2016
The Simons Collaboration on the Origins of Life seeks to engage the ideas and creativity of researchers around the world by providing an array of opportunities for postdoctoral fellows to interact with colleagues from different disciplines and programs, both online and in person, including webinars, workshops and annual symposia. As fellows are expected to participate fully in all SCOL events, these opportunities are designed to not only strengthen the collaboration but also provide the most fruitful mechanism for bringing a growing origins-of-life community together. Applications from all origins-related disciplines are encouraged.
Eligibility
Candidates should have received their Ph.D. or equivalent degree within five years of the fellowship’s start date. Applications may be submitted from scientists in domestic and foreign nonprofit organizations; public and private institutions, such as colleges, universities, hospitals, laboratories and units of state and local government; and eligible agencies of the federal government. There are no citizenship or country requirements. Postdocs in currently funded SCOL Investigator labs are ineligible to apply.
Funding
Appointments last for three years, contingent upon continued research on questions relevant to origins of life as assessed by annual progress reports. The annual stipend will be $55,000 USD.
Instructions for Submission
The application process has two phases. In the first phase, applicants submit a first-stage proposal via proposalCENTRAL. The submission deadline for first-stage proposals is Friday, September 9, 2016, 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time. First-stage finalists will be notified by Friday, October 28, 2016, and must submit a second-stage proposal by Thursday, December 1, 2016.
