Astrobiologist Rebecca Rapf has been selected as the first recipient of the Maggie C. Turnbull Early Career Award. Rapf is a postdoctoral scholar in physical chemistry at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She was selected by her peers from a pool of ten nominees, and presented with the award at the closing ceremonies of the 2018 Astrobiology Graduate Conference.

The Maggie C. Turnbull Early Career Award is named for astrobiologist Margaret C. Turnbull, founder of the Astrobiology Graduate Conference (AbGradCon), which is now in its 14th year. Turnbull is a specialist in the study of planetary systems capable of supporting life.
