Astrobiologists supported by the Exobiology & Evolutionary Biology element of the NASA Astrobiology Program have provided new information about the potential connections between primordial metabolism on Earth and molecules found in early membranes. The team mapped evolutionary connections between ancient biochemistry and membrane-bound proteins that would have been an important component in life’s first cells.
The paper, “Towards Co-Evolution of Membrane Proteins and Metabolism,” was published in the journal Origins of Life and Evolution of Biospheres
