C-DEBI Global Environmental Microbiology (GEM) Summer Course 2021

The Center for Dark Energy Biosphere Investigations (C-DEBI), headquartered at the University of Southern California (USC) and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), is offering an all-expense paid, three-week, intensive introductory aquatic microbiology course called Global Environmental Microbiology (GEM). The course is scheduled to take place June 13 – July 2, 2021, and applications are due February 25, 2021.
Early career undergraduates from from 2- and 4-year colleges who are interested in a STEM career are encouraged to apply. The course will include lectures, discussions, labs, fieldwork, networking, career panels and more focusing on aquatic microbes and their ecology. Expenses will be paid for by C-DEBI, including travel, room, board, and course expenses.
The course will be hosted in-person at the University of Southern California (University Park Campus) and on Santa Catalina Island from Sunday, June 13 through Friday, July 2. However, if the course cannot be hosted in-person, a highly modified version of the course will be held online from Monday, June 14 through Friday, July 2.
