The Astrobiology Graduate Conference 2023 (AbGradCon 2023) will be hosted at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), La Jolla, CA, USA, on May 22nd – 25th, 2023. A Proposal Writing Retreat (PWR) will be held on Catalina Island prior to the conference from May 18th – 22nd, 2023.

Applications are now open until March 15th!

The Astrobiology Graduate Conference is entirely graduate student-run, and dedicated to early-career scientists who study the complex and diverse topics that the astrobiology field encompasses. This conference has been an integral part of the astrobiology community for nearly two decades by providing a setting for graduate students and postdocs where small group discussions, presentations, and social activities promote long-term professional relationships. In essence, AbGradCon seeks to create a more interdisciplinary and inclusive astrobiology community, foster collaboration, and provide practical training for young scientists.

This year’s conference will be held at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the Scripps Seaside Forum. The conference will consist of 2.5 days of scientific and collaborative sessions, a set of public outreach events dedicated to engaging with local undergraduate students and the general public, and an educational field trip. An intensive proposal writing retreat will be held the weekend prior to the conference on Catalina Island for a group of 20 graduate students.

There is no registration fee and we encourage all graduate students and postdocs interested in astrobiology to apply. Funding is available for graduate students. To learn more about the conference and submit an abstract, visit abgradcon.org!
