A new outreach opportunity for early career astrobiologists has arisen, via a partnership with the NASA-funded Northwest Earth and Space Science Pipeline (NESSP) program at the University of Washington. As part of the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landings, NESSP is conducting a nationwide event called the “Apollo Next Giant Leap Student Challenge” in which teams of students will fly a drone carrying a custom payload onto a simulated lunar surface…where awaits a robotic rover, also programmed by the students, which must navigate to a location and deliver the payload from the drone.
