In response to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s memorandum on “Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research”, NASA released an updated draft plan for access to federal funded research: “NASA’s Public Access Plan: Increasing Access to the Results of Scientific Research”. NASA seeks public input on the updated draft plan through a request for information that closes on August 17, 2023. Early comments are encouraged. Comments received after this date will be considered to the extent practicable.

NASA is hosting a webinar July 17th from 1-2 pm Eastern Time on this updated draft plan for access to federal funded research, to explain what has changed, to discuss scientific publications, data (and data management plans), and software (and software management plans). There will be time after the presentation for questions.

After the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) has finished reviewing the responses, the responses may be posted to the NASAOCS website without redaction. All submissions will be acknowledged, and NASA will publicize a summary of the submissions within 90 days.
