Alien Hunters

Presenter: Shawn Domagal-Goldman, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
When: August 28, 2012 12PM PDT

Searching for extraterrestrial life has created a new scientist: the astrobiologist. Curator of Astrobiology at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science David Grinspoon, NASA’s Shawn Domagal-Goldman and UK astrobiologist and FameLabber Lewis Dartnell explore some mind-blowing discoveries and the future of hunting for life beyond Earth. Why is Mars so exciting? Where are other Earth-like planets? Could astrobiology save Earth? Each works on wildly diverse topics in different disciplines, but they all ask the same question: are we alone…?

Year of the Solar System

  • While NASA celebrates 50 years of Solar System exploration in 2012, the last two of those years saw an unprecedented cluster of activity. From comet and asteroid encounters to landing an analytical chemistry laboratory on the surface of Mars, we have dared and learned much. Throughout it all, fundamental research has provided the foundation and impetus for exploration. These talks give the state of the art in astrobiology research in 2012.
