2014 Annual Science Report

Massachusetts Institute of Technology Reporting  |  SEP 2013 – DEC 2014

EPO Activity: Website

Project Progress

“In the first months of 2014, Benjamin Kotrc undertook a redesign of the MIT Team’s website, complex-life.org, from the ground up. Changes included a new underlying platform (from drupal to WordPress), visual design, new content describing the team’s research in lay as well as technical language, and graphically, a new blog, integration with the team’s Twitter stream, and new descriptions (with new photography) of the team members.

During the reporting period, the MIT Team used this website, as well as the team’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, to engage with and disseminate research and outreach news to the broader scientific community and the general public, through a social media committee convened by Benjamin Kotrc.

Team member Dawn Sumner has continued to contribute to two blogs she maintains on her Martian and Antartic research, respectively: http://DawnOnMars.blogspot.com and http://DawnInAntarctica.blogspot.com. Sumner also co-coordinated a Women in Science Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at UC Davis (3/4/2014; link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/University_of_California_Davis_Libraries/March_4).”
