Project Progress

The EPO Lead of the Goddard Center for Astrobiology (GCA), Dr. Cynthia Cheung gave a presentation on March 13th, 2010 at the Reston Regional Library in Fairfax County, Virginia. The talk was on NASA’s use of robotic spacecraft to explore our solar system to search for life. Over 70 children (age 6-12) and their parents participated in the event organized by the Reston Library’s Youth Service Coordinator. She highlighted recent discoveries by GCA scientists using SIRTF, HST and ground-based observatories. She also introduced the Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) instrument suite being built at GSFC for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL). She showed the children the website to send their names to Mars on MSL. GCA bookmarks were distributed to all attendees at the end of the talk.
