EPO Activity: Masters of Science in Science Education

Project Progress

ABRC and Thermal Biology Institute sponsored two classes for advanced credit in conjunction with the Masters in Science of Science Education program at Montana State University (MSSE). The courses provides science content information for practicing science instructors teaching middle, secondary and college courses. Our first class, Thermal Biology in Yellowstone National Park, focused on the extreme geothermal environments in Yellowstone. The second, Examining Life in Extreme Environments Insights into Early Earth and Beyond, tied astrobiology to research in geothermal springs to research in the cold reaches of Antarctica. Forty teachers participated in the courses in 2009, with NASA scientists, ABRC faculty and graduate students facilitating.
