Project Progress
We reported Ir anomalies in sediments at the Triassic-Jurassic boundary, and more recent analyses now confirm this. These may be related to volcanism, rather than impact. We have helped to understand the timing of an unusual K/T boundary fauna in New Jersey that might have survived the K/T impact. We have organized an international consortium to search for evidence of impact in sediments from the Permian-Triassic type section from Meishan quarry, China. We have made considerable progress in detailed analyses of 17 new sediment cores sampling the Eltanin impact event.
