AbGradCon 2018 marks the 14th year of this conference, this time held at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta from Monday, June 4th to Friday, June 8th. The Proposal Writing Retreat (PWR), a training opportunity on effective proposal writing, takes place from June 1st to June 4th.

The Lewis and Clark Fund for Exploration and Field Research in Astrobiology
Next Deadline: February 15, 2018

The Lewis and Clark Fund is open to graduate students, postdocs, and early-career scientists and scholars who are affiliated with U.S. institutions and are planning to conduct field study in any area of interest to astrobiology. Reports from the field research projects are archived in the American Philosophical Society Library and the NASA Astrobiology Institute.

NASA Astrobiology Postdoctoral Program Fellowship

The NASA Astrobiology Program element of the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) provides opportunities for Ph.D. scientists and engineers of exceptional promise and ability to perform research on projects largely of their own choosing, yet compatible with the research interests of the NASA Astrobiology Program. The application cycles are in March and November.

NASA Astrobiology Early Career Collaboration Award
Next Deadline: April 1, 2018

The Astrobiology Early Career Collaboration Award offers research-related travel support for undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior scientists. Applicants are encouraged to use these resources to circulate among two or more laboratories supported by the NASA Astrobiology Program (the NASA Astrobiology Institute, Exobiology and Evolutionary Biology, Planetary Science and Technology Through Analog Research, MatiSSE, PICASSO, and the Habitable Worlds Programs), however any travel that is critical for the applicant’s research will be considered. Applications are accepted with deadlines of April 1 and October 1 each year.

NASA Astrobiology Faculty Diversity Program (formerly the MIRS Program)
Deadline: April 15, 2018

The goal of the AFD Program is to help train a new generation of researchers in astrobiology and to increase diversity within the astrobiology community. Faculty members at a US college or university designated by the US Department of Education as a Minority Serving Institution or who are themselves a member of an underrepresented minority group, and who are prepared to conduct scientific research related to astrobiology, may apply for up to 10 weeks of financial support, including housing and travel, as well as additional funds to continue the research with students and/or astrobiology labs and curriculum.
