Each spring, local Madison, Wisconsin elementary schools host “Afterschool Science Nights” where students can bring their parents in to the school for a night of science workshops run by local outreach initiatives. Attendees learned about the history of exploration on Mars, the evolution of Mars rover design and then each participant was able to design and build their own rover out of parts provided to them.

Each spring, local Madison, Wisconsin elementary schools host “Afterschool Science Nights” where students can bring their parents in to the school for a night of science workshops run by local outreach initiatives. This year, Brooke Norsted oversaw student Lisa Lesar (undergraduate) who developed a forty-five minute interactive presentation on astrobiology for elementary school students and their families. The focus of her presentation was on explorations on Mars and astrobiology research. Attendees learned about the history of exploration on Mars, the evolution of Mars rover design and then each participant was able to design and build their own rover out of parts provided to them. Lisa delivered this presentation to more than 400 people this spring at eight elementary school science nights.
