EPO Activity: Public Lectures and Outreach

Project Progress

Many of the members of the MIT team give public lectures and appear on various media outlets as a result of their NAI funded work.

The most notable example this year was Dr. Dimitar Sasselov’s TED talk on finding potentially habitable planets around other stars, viewable here: http://www.ted.com/talks/dimitar_sasselov_how_we_found_hundreds_of_potential_earth_like_planets.html
This talk has been viewed thousands of times, and linked to hundreds of times across the web.

PI Daniel Segre participated in a public science forum at the Miela Theater in Trieste, Italy on May 27th, 2010 (Figure 1). He presented a public lecture on his NAI funded work (Figure 'Segre Outreach’)

PI Tanja Bosak and MIT graduate student Alex Petroff participated in Science for the Public’s Public Lecture Series on October 19th and the Belmont, MA public library. They discussed their work on photosynthetic organisms in deep time. This program was taped and will be available on the Science for the Public website for public viewing.
