Robert Zakin

Robert Zakin has created compelling content for Discovery Channel, National Geographic, PBS, AMC, The History Channel, TLC, TBS and Animal Planet as well as many non-broadcast outlets.

He joined Discovery Channel in 2012 as Executive Producer where he garnered two Emmy nominations, winning one for Winged Planet.

Before joining Discovery, he was Executive Producer of Explorer at National Geographic Television, the longest running documentary series on cable television. During this time, Robert oversaw more than 80 diverse shows, covering everything from redwoods to marijuana to solitary confinement. With his leadership, Explorer went from being the lowest rated series on National Geographic Channel to the highest in 2009. During his tenure, the series won a Television Academy Honors award for Inside Death Row and was nominated for over eighteen national Emmy awards, winning four, including Outstanding Investigative Journalism for Gorilla Murders.

Prior to NGT, Robert was with Tiger Aspect Productions’ U.S. office where he worked on reality TV and entertainment series for TLC, Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. He won a Hugo from the Chicago International Film Festival for outstanding editing and received notices in Variety and The New York Times.

Robert takes pride in creative collaboration, strong team building, strong storytelling, and getting the best from bands of diverse personalities and talents.

His work just received a 24th Emmy nomination.
