Pan Conrad

Pan Conrad is an astrobiologist and mineralogist with the Planetary Environments Laboratory at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. She holds Master’s degrees in Philosophy and Geology as well as a PhD in Geochemistry and Mineralogy from George Washington University.

As the Deputy Principal Investigator for the SAM instrument aboard the Curiosity rover on Mars, Pan sits on the cutting edge of planetary exploration. She has traveled to the ends of the Earth to study life. She is a veteran of six Arctic and two Antarctic expeditions, and has explored deep-sea hydrothermal vents in the Pacific Ocean from a submersible. Her research focuses on the potential habitability of planetary surface environments, and how the early evolution of Mars relates to that of Earth.
