Alex Lockwood

Alexandra Lockwood is a planetary astronomer and science communicator with a passion for people and sharing her enthusiasm about scientific possibility. She received her BS(2007) in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Maryland and a MS(2010) and PhD(2014) from Caltech in Planetary Sciences. During graduate school she also starred in The PhD Movie, a live action film based off the popular webcomic www.phdcomics.com. With the same team of filmmakers, Alex created and hosted a YouTube series showcasing researchers from different disciplines around the globe call PhDetours. Following the success of the first movie, a second film The PhD Movie 2: Still in Grad School will be released October 2015. Alex's interest in science outreach led halfway around the world and she is currently working as a Science Specialist for Outreach Initiatives at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia.
