EPO Activity: Science Inquiry Learning in the Classroom

Project Progress

In 2009-2010, ABRC’s Monica Brelsford worked in two counties of Montana along with MSU’s Science/Math Resource Center, Plant Sciences and Department for Native American Studies to provide a year long 6 credit course to fifty-five elementary and secondary teachers in Gallatin and Lewis and Clark counties in Montana. This year long life science course was focused on several astrobiology topics such as defining life, energy requirements for life and understanding genetic evolution. This rigorous course included online modules, monthly face to face academies and classroom evaluations. The course taught educators new science content and pedagogy techniques while providing training in science inquiry practices for classrooms of all ages.
