EPO Activity: Science and Inquiry Learning in Classrooms (SILC)

Project Progress

ABRC’s Monica Brelsford is currently working with two school districts, MSU’s Science/Math Resource Center and Department for Native American Studies, and the Montana Learning Center to provide a year long 6 credit course to fifty-five elementary and secondary teachers in Gallatin and Lewis and Clark counties in Montana. This year long life science course is focused on several astrobiology topics such as defining life, energy requirements for life and understanding genetic evolution. This rigorous course includes online modules, monthly face to face academies and classroom evaluations. The course is teaching educators new science content and pedagogy techniques and providing training in science inquiry practices for classrooms of all ages.
