The astrobiology community mourns the loss of Tullis C. Onstott, professor of geosciences at Princeton University and a Principal Investigator on numerous projects funded by elements of the NASA Astrobiology Program. Onstott passed away on October 19, 2021, in Oracle, Arizona, at the age of 66. Onstott was a pioneering researcher in deep subsurface microbiology, identifying habitats for life miles beneath the surface of the Earth. He was also a dedicated teacher, providing instruction for many scientists who are now part of the astrobiology community today, and founded the Planets and Life undergraduate certificate program in the Department of Astrophysics at Princeton University.
