The Rensselaer Astrobiology Research and Education Center (RARE) at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is seeking applicants for one or more research staff positions. Research staff are responsible for providing technical expertise to facilitate the design, implementation, and analysis of experimental and modeling efforts, the publication of results, and the oversight of lab personnel. Rank of the research staff position will depend on post-degree experience. The Research Scientist is expected to lead independent and advanced research in one or more of RARE’s research areas and will be expected to possess recognition as an authority in fields relevant to RARE as evidenced in publication and scholarly dissemination. Research Associates/Specialists will be expected to oversee laboratory activities, including personnel training, instrument and facility maintenance, and day-to-day laboratory functions.

Candidates must have an earned advanced degree (i.e. Masters or PhD) or foreign equivalent in Astrobiology, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Geochemistry, Physics, Geoinformatics, or a relevant field. Candidates with specific expertise in experimental and analytical geochemistry, prebiotic chemistry, and/or related fields will be given first consideration.

Applications will be considered as received (open deadline), and positions will be filled based on available funding.

Qualified applicants for any position must send a cover letter, CV, and three (3) letters of recommendation to Maura Marsett (saratm@rpi.edu). Candidates for the Research Scientist/Associate/Specialist should also include a research statement with their application materials. Questions should be directed to Maura Marsett.
