The Bay Area Environmental Research (BAER) Institute is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher for a period of two years to perform measurements of nitrogen cycling in photosynthetic microbial mats at NASA’s Ames Research Center (ARC), located at Moffett Field, CA. These measurements are directed at better understanding the role of nitrogen cycling over geologic time on Earth, as well as the application of that knowledge in the search of life elsewhere. More information on the BAER Institute can be found at https://baeri.org.

The employee will be part of the Microbial Ecology and Biogeochemistry Research Laboratory (see http://spacescience.arc.nasa.gov/microecobiogeo/ for details) organizationally located in the Exobiology Branch (see https://www.nasa.gov/content/exobiology-branch-code-ssx) within the Space Sciences and Astrobiology Division at NASAARC. Multiple laboratories available to the project at NASAARC contain an extensive set of instruments for biogeochemical measurements of intact microbial mats, as well as measurements of microbial physiology and algal and cyanobacterial photophysiology.
