“So’ ba hane’ – Story of the Stars” Educator Workshop

Thank you for your interest in this workshop. The So’ ba hane’ classroom materials were designed to bring NASA science and Navajo cultural information on the stars together. The booklet contains six hands-on activities for students which are meant to create a unique “dual-learning” environment. On day one of the workshop, a NASA scientist and a Navajo cultural expert will provide extensive background material in both the science concepts and cultural information presented in So’ ba hane’. On day two, workshop participants will work in groups to do in-depth training with the classroom activities. There is no fee for this workshop.For a nominal fee, Continuing Education Units for teachers will be offered through the Department of Diné Education and one credit-hour in Astronomy will be offered through Navajo Technical College.
TENTATIVE AGENDA
Day One: Scientific and cultural background information presented, lecture-style with Q+A. Tentative location: Navajo Nation Museum in Window Rock, AZ.Day Two: Hands-on training with each of the six classroom activities in the So’ ba hane’ booklet. Tentative location: Navajo Nation Division of Diné Education Building in Window Rock, AZ.
