  1. Research Associate Position at University of Washington, Seattle

    The Astronomy department and Astrobiology Program at the University of Washington, Seattle invites applications for a full time, postdoctoral-level, position in planetary atmospheres and astrobiology. The successful applicant will spend half of their time working on climate-modeling relevant to the “runaway greenhouse” mechanism, which helps to define the inner edge of the habitable zone, and the remaining time working on a negotiated science project relevant to the larger science goals of the Virtual Planetary Laboratory Lead Team of the NASA Astrobiology Institute. The successful applicant will work with Prof. Vikki Meadows, and consult with Dr. Colin Goldblatt.

    A PhD in Atmospheric or Planetary science or a related field is required. Applicants should have a strong background in atmospheric science, with experience working on radiative transfer and/or climate modeling and excellent computer skills (experience with Linux, Fortran and Matlab is desirable). Existing publications in peer reviewed literature are highly desirable. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. The position is for two years and may be extended if further funding becomes available.
