Question
Is it possible to have life on other planets? When I say life, I am referring to any type of life-human life, bacteria, etc.
Determining what constitutes a habitable environment is one of the most important areas of astrobiology research. If you will search this site under "habitability" or "habitable environments," you should find several answers that will be helpful. Very briefly, it seems that life as we know it requires liquid water and suitable energy sources. Thus we "follow the water" when we consider suitable abodes for life on other planets. Mars and Europa are the mostly likely places for life like ours. But so far we have no evidence at all to answer the question of whether there is life on these two worlds, or even how we might best go about searching for it.
