  1. Question

What do we think is necessary for life?

Versions of this question have been addressed in a number of previous answers -- please search this website for "habitability". No one knows exactly what is needed for life, but the minimum conditions seem to involve liquid water, the biogenic elements, and energy sources. One important objective of astrobiology research is to be able to provide answers to questions about habitability and the origin of life.
