  1. Question

How is the Martian landscape different from Earth's landscape?

Mars is a remarkable, unique planet. While there are many similarities with the Earth (shield volcanoes, impact craters, lava flows, flood channels, etc.) there are also important differences. Some of the differences result from the lack of plate tectonics on Mars, others from its different gravity and atmosphere. You will find the martian landscape described in almost any book on Mars, such as Mapping Mars by Oliver Morton, A Traveler's Guide to Mars by William Hartmann, or Magnificent Mars by Ken Croswell. The landscape of Mars is also compared with that of the Earth in many general books on the planets, such as Planetary Landscapes by Ron Greeley, The Cambridge Photographic Atlas of the Planets by G. Briggs and F. Taylor, or The Planetary System by D. Morrison and T. Owen.
