    Has earth been hit by any meteors?

    The Earth is hit by millions of meteors every day; you can see a few of them as "shooting stars" on any clear night if you look carefully. At least once a week we encounter a meteor big enough to reach the surface, at which point it is called a meteorite. Tons of meteoritic material strike the Earth every year.
