Question
Who and when where exoplanets dicovered? And how where they dicovered?
The first planet outside our solar system was discovered in 1995; this is a hot giant planet orbiting close the star 51 Peg. By the end of 2002, there were more than 100 exoplanets known. Nearly all have been discovered indirectly by what is called the Doppler technique, in which astronomers measure the tiny motions of the star in response to the gravity of the orbiting planet. For a more detailed description and an up-to-date listing of the planets discovered so far, see the website http://exoplanets.org. David Morrison, Senior Scientist, NAI
