Question
I was woundering how changes in growth affect astronauts in space?
The environment of space affects the human body in many ways. You are probably wondering how the human body responds to a microgravity environment like that encountered on the space station. I would recommend visiting NASA’s Fundamental Space Biology Outreach Program website. Specifically, check out the following response to a question on microgravity affects on the human skeletal and muscular systems: http://weboflife.ksc.nasa.gov/faq.htm#skeletal In addition, there is a previous Ask-an-Astrobiologist question about using growth hormones in space that you may find interesting: http://nai.arc.nasa.gov/astrobio/astrobio_detail.cfm?ID=76 To learn more what it is like for astronauts to live in space, you can scroll through the NASA Human Spaceflight “Living in Space” website: http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/living/index.html David Lamb, Science Projects Specialist, NAI
