Question
What metals are used to construct the space shuttle?
The Shuttle body is constructed almost entirely of conventional aluminum alloy. The walls are given their characteristic strength by a special "honeycomb" panel construction. These panels consist of two thin sheets of aluminum metal attached by a network of foil cells. Such panels are super-lightweight and incredibly strong. Satellites are also constructed from the same materials. For a full description of the construction of the Shuttle, please see the following NASA Spaceflight link: http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/shuttle/reference/shutref/structure/structure.html
