  1. Question

How much of the Earth's atmosphere is carbon?

Pure carbon will not usually be found as a gas unless the temperature is well over several thousand degrees! Normally, pure carbon is almost solely found in solid form on the Earth's surface, usually in the form of graphite (pencil lead) or, more rarely, coal or diamond. However, carbon dioxide is a readily formed gas from carbon and oxygen, and it comprises nearly entire atmospheres on Mars and Venus. On Earth, carbon dioxide comprises about .03% of our atmosphere. See below for details. percent of Earth's atmosphere by volume Nitrogen N2 78.084% Oxygen O2 20.9476% Argon Ar 0.934% Carbon Dioxide CO2 0.0314%
