  1. Question

What is the sky of Mars like?

With only a very thin atmosphere of CO2 and dust, Mars retains just enough gas in its “sky” to shield its surface from some solar radiation. It is composed primarily of carbon dioxide (95.32%), with small amounts of nitrogen (2.7%), argon (1.6%), and oxygen (0.13%). Martian air contains only 1/1000th as much water as Earth's air, but it can still condense to form clouds, fog, and even frost. The Martian sky can also be rampant with storms, though unlike Earth, these storms consist of superfine dust and ice. However, evidence suggests that long ago, Mars may have had a dense atmosphere much like Earth today.
