    If possible, how would terraforming overcome the different gravitational forces of planets deemed suitable for eventual human civilisation?

    Terraforming a planet, if it can be done at all, will probably be confined to planets with roughly the size of Earth, and hence a similar gravity. In order to hold on to a suitable atmosphere, its gravity would need to be rather like that of the Earth, perhaps making it hospitable for Earth-life, even human life. But the only planet we know of that might be suitable for terraforming is Mars, and doing so even for Mars is well beyond our current technology. David Morrison
