Question
Would it be possible to communicate with an extraterrestrial intelligent civilization and HOW?
One of our the most robust conclusions about extraterrestrial intelligent life is that if it exists in nearby parts of our Galaxy, these civilizations will almost surely be far in advance of ours. That is why the SETI strategies are to listen, and not transmit. If and when we detect a microwave or optical signal from an intelligent species, we can consider how we might try to communicate with it, or even whether that is desirable. You can find additional discussions of this issue by searching on this website for other answers dealing with SETI. David Morrison
