Question
How were the Planets aligned on 07/03/1972?
The planets were not really aligned in the summer of 1972, in the way that most people use the word. They did not look close together in the sky. What did happen for a few weeks was that all of the planets were within the same quarter or quadrant of the sky as seen from Earth. Such an "alignment" is quite rare, not happening more than once every few decades. There is nothing mysterious about it, however, since it results quite naturally from the orbits of the planets about the Sun. If you are interested in more details, including plots of the apparent positions of the planets, you can look up several articles that were written at that time in Sky & Telescope and Astronomy magazines.
